We arrived in Cologne without incident. Robert and Doro met us on the platform. Doro was 8 months pregnant. Upon leaving the train station we were treated to the amazing sight of the cathedral. Never before had we been so overwhelmed leaving a train station.
We spent a lot of time walking around the city, some of it with Robert and Doro. The first thing we did was explore the Cathedral. It is famous for having the remains of the three Magi. After receiving that artifact it started acquiring other treasures. Unfortunately many were stolen years ago but it still has five rooms full of treasures like golden chalices and finger bones of saints. Robert and I climbed to the top of the tower (about 600 steps) for a wonderful view of the city
We spent some time walking around the old city. Very nice. We had a beer. It was quite a shock to see the tiny little beer glassed they use in Cologne. They are .25 or .2 liters compared to full liter mugs used in Munich.
We toured the chocolate museum, out first chocolate museum in Europe. Kim was beside herself with delight. They have an exhibit where you watch the entire chocolate creation process from cocoa beans to foil wrap. The best part was the free samples.
Doro and Robert had a party so we got to meet some other Colognians (Colognites? Colognes?). They were all friendly. We let kid at the party take pictures with our camera so we have a lot of um... inspired photos.
Doro and Robert were both wonderful. We wish them luck with the new baby!
