Where I stayed
On Friday, May 9, Don stopped at milepost 22. The Stevensons drove back to Troy, Montana, but they had trouble finding a place to stay, as there were hundreds of bicyclists in the area. Don chatted with some from a group called Scenic Tour of the Kootenai River (STOKR) and learned that they were benefitting Habitat for Humanity. They may have been part of the annual Habitat Bicycle Challenge. According to Wikipedia, "The Habitat Bicycle Challenge (HBC) is the largest annual fundraiser for any Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the United States. Led by Yale University students, HBC is a 4,000 mile cross-country bicycle ride that raises money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity. Each rider raises $4,000 (about one dollar for every mile biked), donates the money to Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven, and bikes across the country."
Don and Loretta were offered a camper to stay in on Friday night, but it was parked behind two bars. Needless to say, it was too noisy for sleep. They ended up trying to sleep in their truck, parked in the parking lot of the Ranch Motel.
