Miles today: 17    Total for campaign: 10,033 miles     New record # of website hits: 30

This morning we received a call from Debra Highley, from the office of the Kenneth L. Kellar Foundation, in Blaine, Washington. Debra informed us that Mr. Kellar is sending us a check for $500- our largest contribution to date!

Mr. Kellar's gift is truly a blessing, but let me tell you how close we came to not receiving it at all:

Debra, herself, was at the Mariners game when Don threw out the first pitch. She is a friend of Rob McPherson, the wonderful tenor who sang the National Anthem and sat in the row in front of us during the game. Debra had a seat next to Rob, but she might never have made it to the game at all. Debra's car died on I-5 just north of Downtown.

Hot-headed drivers leaned on their horns and cursed at Debra as they got around her in heavy Friday-night-commute traffic. Finally, a state trooper pulled up behind her and offered to push her to the nearest exit. Debra thanked him, but fretted because she thought she wouldn't get to the Mariners game in time to hear her friend sing. The trooper told her, "It'll work out. You gotta have faith!" He called a tow truck.

The tow truck driver had a terrible time getting Debra's big SUV onto his truck. But he told her, "Don't worry! I have a friend who drives a cab. He'll get you there in time!"

"What are you going to do with my car?" Debra asked with more than a little trepidation.

"Don't worry about it. It'll be safe. You gotta have faith!"

Not only was Debra there in time to hear Rob's great job on the Anthem, but she was there to see Don's First Pitch! (And the car was taken care of.) And when we all got to our seats and talked, Debra had a chance to learn about Huntington's Disease and Don's trip to New York to raise awareness of HD.

First thing Monday morning, after Debra got a chance to discuss it with Mr. Kellar, we got the happy call about the largest single contribution of the HD campaign.

Hallelujah and Amen!
