Dinner last night was eaten at a place called the Fish Company and we decided to take a magic sleigh ride, that was the name of the meal. It consisted of the chefs choices in a five course meal taking us on a "sleigh" around Iceland. The first course consisted of a small mason jar full of lamb, tomato and peas with some sauce; the second course was pickled herring with rhubarb, which only dad liked, smoked salmon, and roasted duck and perch in a blueberry sauce; third course pork-belly, beef confit, a root vegetable, brussel sprouts, potatoes, and apple reduction; fourth was a pre-dessert which was a small portion of rice pudding with cherries, this course, however, served to be quite interesting, there were three servings of this pre-dessert but one, and only one had an almond hidden inside it and the one who found the almond in their dessert was the winner, guess who won..... ME!!! :) My prize was a famous Icelandic Christmas present, a deck of cards and a candle. The fifth portion was actual dessert, which was marzipan with chocolate ice cream, yogurt with chocolate cookie sprinkles. Then one of the waiters came out of the kitchen with a frozen, smokey pot. He walked to the table over and started spooning out what looked like small pink rocks. Mom asked what it was and he told us it was liquid nitrogen and what he was spraying was raspberry whipped cream and the liquid nitrogen harden, or as he put it, petrified the cream and made it rock-like. He let us try some and it was delicious but very strange, smoking in your mouth while being freezing, the only catch was you had to eat it quickly otherwise it would melt. They called it Lava, pretty fitting since a volcano erupts Iceland every four to five years. Mom took several trips to the bathroom to take pictures of a giant cow as well as never forgetting to comment how she "could not get over the use of real candles everywhere." After dinner we walked around a bit to convince ourselves we wouldn't gain a single pound from all the food we consumed, headed back to the hotel and crashed for the night.

Dad's perspective - Dinner was fabulous! Kelly described it perfectly, cow and all. We complimented the meal with a wonderful Shiraz reserve.
