Wet Windy and Weird those are the words for this afternoon, strolling around, today a very Wet Reykjavik in search of the infamous Icelandic wool. We walked ALL the way up and then ALL the way down Skolavordustigur street. The street has about as many blocks as there are letters in its name. It is also the main shopping district in the city, without going into a single store. However, it was decorated very nicely, with christmas lights in all the trees and bell shaped garland overhead the "major" intersections. We were in search of one store in particular, however, we could not remember its name or what intersection it was located. That served as quite a challenge and ultimately gives explanation for all the initial walking and the veryy little shopping. As we walked up the street we tried to play it cool. Fit in with the locals, it could not be too hard. Yeahh.... that didn't last long. We had no idea how to cross the streets because there were no crosswalks or stop signs and we pulled out a map within five minutes, and if that wasn't bad enough we pulled it out right outside the most touristy store in all of Reykjavik. As we walked further up the street it became Windier and Windier, almost blowing us away. I could not even take a clear picture because the wind was moving my hands. Concluding the street stood a magnificent church. Designed almost like a mountain, extremely tall and steep in the middle, and falling to both the left and right, with a cross at the peek. Mom with her love of churches, in Italy we must have gone into at least 100, immediately began a quest for the large double doors. Dad and I had to run after her to point out a hearse parked outside, indicating should would have interrupted a funeral. We definitely would have been the popular tourists for that one! After the near disturbance at the church, we decided it was much too Windy to stay any longer sooo we heading back down the street. After mom asked a lady in a coffee shop we finally found the wool store. To our surprise the wool was extremely itchy, like there was no way any of us were going to wear it itchy. Mom wanted to find a nice wool hat, which she did after trying on about ten. We ended up visiting several other very similar stores, but did not last too long because of the cold Wind and rain. We did, however, stop for some gelato and crepes! I ended up getting the equivalent to mint chocolate chip ice cream, but the Weird thing was that it was blue! Not something you see everyday. After indulging in the high calorie feast we walked to catch a cab back to the dry, air conditioned, and for the most part, normal, hotel. Typically the entry would end here but remember things never really happen the way they are supposed to with us, so the story continues. On our itinerary it indicated we had access to the executive lounge, yet our keys would not open it. Long story short we ended up moving rooms from the fifth floor to the ninth floor so our keys would have access to the executive lounge, as well as to have a better view of the fogged in ocean.... We're about to head off to dinner at, for what it feels like to us and what actually is for you, 2:30 in the afternoon. Hope you guys have a nice dinner in 4ish hours!
Until next time,
Kelly

Dad's perspective - I've got to agree with the Three W's. The downtown shopping district was quaint, with a European flair. Lots of small shops, very individually themed, some a little too obvious focused on the tourist, with most much more subtle in this respect.

The rain and wind were a bit of a bummer, but didn't keep us down. In fact, at the church, at the top of the hill, our inability to stand still, due to the wind, became comical.
