Where I stayed
We were now in Tropical Far North Queensland and pretty much surrounded by rainforest. We headed up from Cairns to Port Douglas which seems like a fairly well off town where people just seem to moor their yachts and head up for weekends. The drive up from Cairns was spectacular – right on the coast line so the ocean came right up to the road and we had high mountains and cliffs on the other side. It took us forever to get thre despite the short distance because we kept stopping off along the road to take photos!
We saw a sign for Hartleys Crocodile Farm and just drove in for a look. It turned out to be a retty good discovery, we were just in time for some crocodile feeding and a boat ride around the lagoon with the crocs swimming alongside us. The keeper put food on a stick and dangled it over him in the water to get it to jump out and grab it so we got an up close look at him
From Port Douglas, we did a roadtrip up to Cape Tribulation and went through the Daintree rainforest and stopped at some pretty nice viewpoints and beaches all along the way. One of the stops was Mossman Gorge which was really really nice. The last stop was Cape tribulation and we got to look back down along the coast line.
Port Douglas itself wasn't the most happening spot, not too many people around but we did get to meet up with Jen from our Whitsundays trip one night for a few drinks.
