Left San Antonio, after a spicy Mexican breakfast.  Hard to find anything that is not Mexican or steak and ribs.

Heading north for a two night stay at the Silver Spur Ranch, just outside of Bandera - the so-called Cowboy Capital of the world!  Stopped off in Bandera to cowboy/girl up!  Ella got some amazing boots, Mick a jacket and Sam a hat (see photos).

Arrived at the ranch just in time for our first trail ride - it was soo funny and a lot of fun!  Basically walking in single file with the odd trot. However, the trail was mostly winding its way through trees and over rocks so there was a little excitement to be had.  Watching the boys ride was hilarious - Sam G's horse, Whiskey, was very naughty.  Just did whatever he wanted and was made to stay at the back because he was anti-social.

Took a hay ride to feed the long horns, then up to the ranch house for dinner. The food was bad!  Cowboy food - meat, white gravy! And other barely edible delights.  Had a campfire with s'mores and chatted to the other guest.

In hindsight, we should have left the next morning.  Days are long on the ranch!  We had a couple more trail rides and some more bad food and not much else. Most of the guest had left and we really had to entertain ourselves.  So we jumped in the car and headed to town.  Boys went to a bar while the girls and I caught up with some shopping.

Headed back to San Antonio the next day to catch our flight to Denver - but due to the freezing weather, our flight was delayed a few hours. We were lucky to get a flight into Denver at all as there were about 60 flights cancelled at that airport that day. I must say flying into Denver at night whilst snowing heavily is not for the faint hearted! Very sweaty palms!  It was a sight to see nevertheless  - nothing but white and the flashing lights of the snow plows.  Mick then had to drive us to breck !!!  Two hour drive with roads covered in snow and ice - we upgraded to a large four wheel drive which was a little comforting. Cars were sliding off the roads everywhere. It was crazy let me tell you!

Safely in Breck now - gorgeous town, great accommodation and more snow than we have ever seen.  Still very cold - minus 19c today. We skied for an hour then had to come in. We were freezing -  Ella briefly lost her mojo!  Should warm up a bit as the week goes on - fingers crossed.
