Took the slow train from Purley to London Victoria Station to meet Jo for lunch (we can now cross tapas off our "unachievable" long to-do list). So glad I got to see London's pretty Christmas decorations. Wandered around the fancy shops near Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street, saw a great photo contest at the Portrait Gallery and shared a few pints at the pubs near Covent Garden. I really don't like it when I'm prohibited from photographs at a museum. I would have like to share a photo of Marc Quinn's self portrait. It was a head, kept in a chilled case because it was made of silicone and 8 pints of the artist's blood!
Saw London's Finest respond to an emergency in the Thames under the Hungerford/Golden Jubilee (the pedestrian part) Bridge. There must have been 20 first responders! And had late night Cornish Pasties (not pastey- that only applies to people with very pale skin...) from the Waterloo Station for the ride home. Thanks Mark, for the 10-minute crash course on cricket!
Spent the following Monday in London with Mike, but of course we had to first meet Jo for fish and chips- sustenance. First stop was Neal's Yard Dairy in Borough Market to pay homage to cheese! They did not disappoint. I can't find the original article, but I'd been wanting to visit since reading about the top 20 scents in the world. The cheese shop was at least in the top 5, after the fields in Paris where all the best perfumes are sourced and the Tokyo fish market- so fresh it smells like salt water!
Visited the Tate Modern. Sometimes modern art is over my head, but I enjoyed it. Took a walk along the South Bank and saw two great photography exhibits, one supporting WWF and the other a landscape photo contest at the National Theatre- worth a visit! And met for cocktails at an adorable cafe, they call it the Vespa Cafe, but it probably has another name...
