My feet thank you, Leticia!
After a little air in the tires, I was cruising around town like a local. Cut the travel time to south Tel Aviv by about 50% and arrived at the Shpilman Institute for Photography just in time for the Hebrew-only tour of their current exhibition, Luma; darn! I've always been fascinated by light and shadows in photography and would have liked to learn more, but I still enjoyed the photos.
Took the long way back uptown to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and saw some great buildings on the outskirts of the Bauhaus White City just off of Sderot Rothschild.
The museum was wonderful. Aside from being a cool refuge from the heat, they had an impressive collection of 19th-21st century paintings, and several cool exhibits: Izhar Patkin, The Wandering Veil; and Asaf Ben Zvi, the winner of the 2011 Rappaport Prize for an Established Israeli Painter. I've included my favorites. Art is such a funny thing- does anyone share my eclectic tastes?
Turns out the museum also has a movie theatre (not dubbed!), and for about a shekel more you can see a movie AND tour the galleries- great deal! This is only my 4th movie in nearly six months- I have a lot of catching up to do! Highly recommend this original movie about about a post-Katrina, apocalyptic-esque bayou community in southern Louisiana: Beasts of the Southern Wild.
The bike also cuts down my evening beach commute...love joining the throngs of polite bikers (you hear lots of bells if you're a pedestrian encroaching on the sidewalk bike lanes) on the wide boulevards dotted with cafes and juice bars every block or so.
