Then I mastered the gas powered weed wacker- kind of a monster; goggles and earphones required. The little chicks are almost ready to roam free, and boy was their yard overgrown. I spent a good bit of time fighting with the devil of all weeds- the gorse- it has the most prickly leaves, they poked me even through thick gloves. We'll have to burn that.
I had a wonderful day today! Very Laura Ingalls Wilder. Brace yourselves. I cooked 3 dishes. Granted, one was old rice and fish for the chickens, but 2 were for human consumption: delicious muesli with all kinds of grains; oats (is that a grain?), millet, rye, sesame, almonds, honey and dried pear, apricot, bananas. Yum! And roasted root vegetables and fresh herbs from the garden topped with tofu. While those were cooking I harvested coriander seeds on the porch in the lovely company of Jack the Cat with the sounds of chickens laying eggs in the background. Did you know they make a special sound when they lay eggs? They gave us 5 today.
