I decided to update Cannes and then go back and finish my escapes with Jackie as after a few days in with Jackie this old gal needed some rest and relaxation and Cannes was the perfect place to do it.

Observations:

The homeless in Cannes keep all their stuff in a suitcase makes it easy to travel to the next sun destination I guess.

If the sequin thong bikini fits, it doesn't mean you should buy it...stop and remember you are 75 years old.  And for God's sake if you must wear it to the beach keep it on; don't decide to go topless it is not a sight anyone wants to see.

French people are not very happy right now...imagine having to work to the age of 62 (instead of 60 before you can retire.

Did not really do too much in Cannes.  The first day I walked down to the beach (two blocks away) and had a walk around.  Walked over to the marina where the 100 foot yachts were kept.  I decided to go over to Marguerite Island where the Man in the Iron Mask had been imprisoned at one point.  Wondered up a couple of streets and found some amazing buildings.

Now the hotel I was staying at is situated on the street under construction so there was no hot water on Wed.  Also, I had the pleasure of being woken up at 2:30 in the morning hearing two guys screaming at each other.  When I looked out the window on of the guys smacked the other across the face and that was it--the one who got hit left.

The second day I went over to Monte Carlo to see how the really rich lived....$50 to 70 million yachts (150 to 200 feet long).  It is a lovely place but I don't have enough money to be there long--lots of nice cars and really really rich people.  Caught the changing of the guard at the palace...all 14 of them plus the 4 in the band and the leader....there where about 25 police officers!!   Wonder if I could get a place to live there that is geared towards income?

I stopped in Nice but it was a mad house as all public workers were going on strike the next day...they are NOT happy about having to work until they reach the age of 62.  (The French live an average of 24 years in retirement; the longest in the Western World.)

I had planned to go to Lyon on the Thursday but due to the strike I was trapped in Cannes~~~I know I was really hard done by.  SO I hit the beach (have a great tan), wondered around and sent some postcards.

I met up with Crystal at the airport and I swear the second she stepped out of the arrivals area its started rain.  Okay not raining so much as a torrential downpour.  We had a couple of hours to chat before she started to wind down--it was the middle of the night to her.

She was lucky she got to go and sleep because my time at the airport was hell on earth.  We were to start boarding at 2:20 for my 3:00 departure but at 2:50 they announced what get we had to go to.  Now due to the strike the previous day all planes had been canceled so the airlines had to use a plane used for trans-Atlantic flights.  Some people were told just to show up on Friday to try and get on the plane.  So as we go to our boarding area---a small area with about 20 seats in it we are all waiting--all 300 of us.  They literally left us there for over an hour with no AC and they would not open the doors.  No one could be bothered to tell anyone what was going on--they just left us there.  At 3:30 I asked this guy, a worker if he could give us information he said to me "who told you to come here?  Why don't you go upstairs and wait?"  At which point I told him MY TICKET TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO BE HERE.  Most people were not willing to say anything but I am not shy so I was quite vocal.  The airport was only willing to allow the airlines 1 bus to unload and load the plane (remember there were over 300 people waiting to get on this flight)  My flight to Dublin actually ended up leaving 15 minutes before the expected arrival time in Dublin and the flight is 2 hours and 20 minutes long.

I arrived in Dublin and poor Jen had arrived about 7 hours before me....

You poor, poor girl.. Now if you had found George, he could have really have shown you the town. Probably one of those cruise ships are his. Great pics.
Are you tired or relaxed yet??? You should have a pedometer and keep track of your mileage for all of the ground you are covering.
