Whale Shark, Oslob Town

The way out of the cornfields was a challenge at the break of dawn with uneven pathways and sharp rocks. After reaching the highway, I met a man(Kuya), a coast guard to the whale shark interaction center who happen to be the cousin of Tatay Dodong. Look who's getting the VIP pass-me!  A short bus ride along the best highway in the country. Roads were constructed by chopping the side of the mountain thus creating a cliff  that offer a fantastic view of the rising sun from the wide open sea.

The tour operations has been taken over by the local government after it has been featured on national TV.  Everything was at peace until a man was accused of riding the whale shark. "You are restricting my freedom! I did not ride the whale shark! I know the rules!" he shouted denouncing the allegation.

I had enough tan waiting for my turn so I approched the confused man assigned to the order of tourists and said that I've been waiting for years. Without interrogation, he immediately asked me to ride the next available boat. A small boat that fits only me and the boatman. Super cool!

He paddle his way to the deeper part of the sea while I videotape the scene a la Steve Irwin. The shark is fed with tiny shrimps called uyap while it follows the boat that roams around the area for every tourist to see. There are around 10 - 15 boats and half a hundred tourists screaming in awe. My eyes pop in amazement seeing sharky just inches away! You can clearly see how defined the white spots are on its back. I could have killed some time playing connect the dots. It was very tempting to touch or hug to say the worse.

TRIVIA: Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world.

The store owner where I left my things welcomed me back with an enormous smile. "Did you see the big fish?" she asked cheerfully clasping her hands in happiness. I wondered why she talked to me in English but I responded "It was ama(y)zing! with my fake Australian acccent. She then took a closer look at me tilting her head and asked if I was Korean. Moved my head from side to side without saying a word. The look of frustration on her as she will have to charge me like a local renting her locker.

I bought roasted chicken and enjoyed lunch with the family at my homestay.

Sights from the half day city tour with my step mom and step brother for a day.

Spanish Quartel
Ruins of the old Spanish building.

Church
Well preserved ancient charm on the outside, modern on the inside.

The Boulevard
Azure, Blue, Light Blue, Dark Blue. Sky blue I saw almost every shade of the color blue on this spot. A perfect venue to propose then get married at the nearby church Las Vegas style.

Mainit Hot Spring
A feet deep hotspring offers a soothing feeling to the tired feet. This is relatively small as to what I expected. Its a cute piece of wonder I must say.

Bomo ok Falls
A habal habal ride to the location of the falls will warm the cold hearted as you will be
going uphill almost on the edge of the cliff in between two towering mountains. The falls is glorious! It was so high you won't see the watersource looking up. The vast stone walls distributes the waterflow thus producing a rain-like mist when it reaches the ground. Rainbows are formed by this phenom.

I am very glad to share this experience with Jason, who, in his 11 years of living in Oslob has never been to this place. And its only a few kilometers from their house!!! No money can buy the look of happiness in the kid's face. He will probably remember me when he grows old, so in my parting words, I encouraged him to study hard for the sake of his family.
