We got up real early and my dad brought Eveline and me to Schiphol Airport, near Amsterdam. When we got there everything went smooth. We dropped our bags at the baggage-dropoff and went for a coffee with my parents. On the departing flights monitors all looked normal.

We went through the security without any problems and went on to the gate. After some waiting a bit of commotion started. And the stewardess announced she had no information and we had to wait.

Then the news came in. Air traffic controllers in Spain were on a wild strike and no one showed up at work that morning. As our luck has it, we had a stop in Madrid, Spain. A flight delayed ofcourse. But still nothing on the monitors. About 15 minutes after our original departure time, the stewardess announced that we wouldn't leave Schiphol before 5 pm (we're talking 10 am when the announcement was made). Eveline and I start to walk back to the transferdesk. There is already a cue, but a rather short one. We ask for our flight to be re-booked to a stop in USA or France or a direct flight to Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela or anything in that surrounding. Unfortunately, there is no option of us. But she books us for the same flight tomorrow, so first to Madrid and then on to Caracas, Venezuela. We get a free hotelroom, lunch, dinner and breakfast for the inconvenience.

We donīt get our baggage back, the airport handles that. So of we go to the shuttlebus for our hotel. The room there is nice, and the food is okay. After some time in the bar, we decide to go to bed early that day. It will be an early day tomorrow!
