The road from Oudtshoorn to Montagu is a spectacular one, you drive through a desert valley surriounded either side by impressive mountains. We stopped halfway for lunch at a nice little town called Barrydale at the very popular restaurant The Country Pumpkin, as recommended by the B&B owners at Oudtshoorn.

On arriving at Montagu we were struck by how peaceful the place is, you are surrounded by beautiful mountains and yes it is still very hot. In the afternoon we visited one of the attractions of the town, the hot mineral springs which are located about 3km outside the town, it was very relaxing to sit in the pool, but maybe a cold mineral spring would have been better in that baking sun.

The B&B we stayed in was owned by an English couple, who moved to South Africa 18 months ago from Lancashire and who loved it out there.
