Time has drifted out of my hands once again! I am now back in Mexico, I returned May 10, 2006. Jenna and I spent about 2 weeks back in Xela to study our Spanish once again. We went to a different school than before and stayed with a new family. Once again we were blessed with a wonderful family that consisted of 3 kids, our "mom", "dad" and an American woman named Helen. During our time in Xela we were able to study, relax, watch movies, eat good food :), and even made a return trip to the Fuentes Georgina's, the natural hot springs. Jenna, Heidi (from school) and I met a small group of Americans in Central Park (and one English bloak) who were traveling around in a small van. They had planned a trip to the springs as well, so we all headed out to the small town of Zunil. The ride to Zunil was easy, once we got there it turned into a real journey. The streets of Zunil are very small, and when the van drives on one there is no room for any other cars. Well we were told to go 3 different ways to get to the springs, from various locals. When we actually tried the directions, we were met with some sort of road block....another car..a broken down chicken bus...dirt ect. The driver had to back down 3 different roads on twisty narrow streets, with many local Mayans dodging the van or simply not moving at all. The trip should have taken 30 min, but it took 3 hours!! When we finally got there it was definitely worth the wait. There was no one there since it was raining, and the sky was full of thick fog that gently covered the surrounding mountains. We stayed in water for 2 hours! I found the hottest spot I could and camped out for most of the time, it was very relaxing! On the drive back it was dark, so we could see thousands of fireflies that lit up the countryside. It was really beautiful.
Jenna and I finished another 2 weeks of school and went back to LAgo Atitlan to spend our last fun week together in Guatemala. The lake was as gorgeous as ever. We rented kayaks, ate good food, read in hammocks, explored other villages on the lake, watched old movies at a restaurant and spent some time with cool people. We left for Antigua on May 7, 2006 so I would not have to stay in Guatemala City (Antigua is only an hour away and had $5 shuttles to the airport). We spent our last days reminiscing about all the amazing things we had seen and done, shopped for presents, and visited with friends. On May 10, 2006 I left Guatemala and returned to Mexico. It was hard to leave Jenna after spending almost 3 whole months with her!
The next morning I returned to work, and was in the water with my dolphins. Since then I have been fairly busy with work, we have had 4 families here in the last 2 weeks. It feels good to be back, but I already miss Guatemala. It was truly an amazing experience that I am thankful for. I had no idea what to expect before I arrived, and was overwhelmed from the diversity of the land (volcanoes, black and white sand beaches, beautiful waterfalls, lakes, hot springs, mountains, rivers ect), the beautiful people (but really small and short), the amazing sites, the incredible food, and all the amazing people I met along the way. Thank you for reading my logs! I will be adding lots of pictures soon, and will let you know when I do!
