HI!!!
I have safely made it to Guatemala City. I thought that I was not going to make it! Since I did not stop at the border for a car permit, I also did not obtain a tourist permit for Mexico, so I was there illegally. Imagine that an illegal American in Mexico :) ! So Daniel and I went to the airport last night to try and get me a tourist card, and was told that I need proof of entry to the country, and that I had to wait until the next day to try and get my tourist card. I was seriously stressing out, I thought that I was not going to make it to Guatemala! I have no proof I entered Mexico! So I got up really early and headed to the airport with Daniel. We were told that I had to get one in Mexico Citys airport. BUT as it turns out, Mexicana airlines gave me the form I needed, and I all I had to do was get it stamped in the airport in Mexico City. WHAT A RELIEF!
I arrived today in Guatemala City at about 4pm today and we greeted by Jenna and Gustavo at the airport. It was sooo good to see Jenna. We have been planning this trip for 11 months, and finally we are here! We went back to Gustavo´s house and caught up on everything. We have already gone through our guide to Guatemala, and have started planning our adventure! Tomorrow morning we are taking a Gandala ride over part of Guatemala City to check it out a bit. Then at 12:30pm we get on a bus to head to Xela. It will take about 3 to 4 hours to get there. Once there we are going to meet the family we are staying with, and get settled. We start Spanish school on Monday. It turns out that Xela is at 8,000ft, so it will be really cold! Of course I ended up loosing my jacket at the airport, it was one of my favorite too. Oh well, I am so excited to be here it really does not matter! I will write once we make it to our school!
