We went out to find Elk Lake and Hidden Lake which are roughly 20 and 30 miles from our campground. Both are in Lima, Montana. We drive through backcountry. The road is paved for the first 5 miles, the rest is dirt. However the road looks very well kept. We pass through Red Rock Pass, elevation is 7120 feet plus this is the continental divide between Idaho and Montana. We get a great view of Red Rock Mountain and Jefferson Mountain whose elevation is 10,203 feet.

We also drive through the Red Rock Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. We see deer but nothing else, which is a bummer.

The dirt road becomes rougher, a drive that should take us about 40 minutes turns out to be 1 1/2 hours. Manuel had to drive real slow. We get to Elk Lake, it is beautiful. There are very few people around, just one fisherman in the lake and that's all we can see. We keep on driving to try and get to Hidden Lake which is another 5 miles. But the road is extremely rough and we turn back. We stop at Elk Lake to have a picnic and get in the water. Chuckie is liking the lakes, he will go in on his own. It is beautiful and peaceful, but again the bugs start getting to us and we decide to leave.

We get back to the campground, I do some laundry to get as much clean for our stay in Yellowstone. We leave tomorrow morning for Yellowstone!
