The earliest bus we could get was on the 23rd January from Montevideo to Santa Fe in Argentina.  We are aiming to get up to the Iguazu Falls up the Northern part of Argentina.  Therefore we had a few days to kill.  We decided on La Paloma which lies 3 hours east along the coast from Montevideo.  It comes recommended and is apparently not overrun with resorts like its neighbour of Punte de Elste.  3 nights R & R.

We get the 10am bus from Montevideo, arrive in town and quickly find accomodation at the Cribe Hotel.  Nice friendly manager there (whom also has lived in Sydney - which I doubt) but the bed is like sleeping on wooden planks!!! We booked 3 nights so will make the most of it...  My back spasms occasionly.

Would highly suggest the next time you are in Uruguay to pop in for a visit.  There is a relaxed slow pace of life here and we are working out a pattern.

Rise in the morning and head with the family to the beach.  Remember to bring, beach umbrella, towels, no sunscrean but perhaps some coconut oil.

Stay at the beach until around 12-1pm then rapidly desert the beach and streets.

Around 4pm, after siesta, lunch and whatever else they do???  Head back to beach (remembering point 1 above)

Leave beach at ??? and head out to dinner around 9.30pm at the earliest....

Despite the above weird ritual of the locals we are ejoying it here.  Its like a place from the 70s or 80s.  I cannot remember the last time I saw a beach umbrella or the cheap plastic fold up chairs of that era nor the oversized T-shirts we all used to wear to and from the beach as kids.  Nothing opens before 10 or 11am and nothing closes before 10pm or later.  There are little houses everywhere and only 1 high rise (right in the middle of the main street).

After 3 days, we realise its all about chilling out, family and friends.  We are doing major chilling as the latter are not with us...

Less than 24 hours and we will be on the road for the next adventure.  We are heading out on the overnight bus (11 hours) from Montevideo to Santa Fe after a 3 hour bus ride back.

xo Hope you are all well!!
