We could not get a taxi from the Hospital, so we ended up taking the number 8 bus all the way there. Got a chance to see some more of Zigong that we had yet to see. More neighborhoods and more big buildings. What we did was make a big loop and ended up at the new Wal-Mart just a few blocks from the Nursing school. We were told to dress warm.
When we arrived, it was obvious that we were gong to be outside all night. There was a stage set up and a huge circle of tables loaded with snacks and sweets and water and beer. All the food groups for a party. We did have seats on the classic plastic Chinese Stool and were very close to the bon fire, which was yet to be lit.
We answered riddles and were given a very fancy Kleenex box as a prize. We were all given numbers when we got there and then the first of 4 drawings was held and not our numbers. The second round was held later and Leigh and Pam both won electric hot water pots.
The fire was lit and everybody started to do a chain dance around the fire. Reminiscent of "Dances with Wolves." Very festive and lots of fireworks and sparklers and chain firecrackers that you twirled. It was very much like the way we played with fireworks and firecrackers when we were kids. It's a shame that our legislators thought they had to get into our personal business and make it illegal to do that any more. I guess too many people were getting hurt, but still....
It was the first time in a while that we had been out at night and the city was aglow with lights. Mini lites in all the trees and Angels tears and color color color everywhere. Our Dragon has been completely refurbished and new lights installed and was our shining beacon signalling our arrival back at out home away from home. Lovely night with lovely people.
