I was 5 minutes late in meeting Otto in a parking lot off Rt 9D after crossing the Newburgh-Beacon bridge. We started hiking up next to the old incline railway up the mountain. There were some viewpoints along the way. On the top we saw the rail wheel house building ruins and the cables and stuff. There was a fantastic view of the Hudson River with the Beacon bridge and some little bays and marshy areas. We looked for the ruins of the old casino and hotel and then continued to the fire tower on South Beacon Mt. This is the highest summit of the Hudson Highlands. It was a tougher hike than the Stissing Mt one because it seemed a lot steeper. The ridge was pleasant and you could go farther and make a big loop but we didn't. We met quite a few hikers on this trip.
