It was a sunny day to begin with when we started out on our cross-country skiing adventure.
Description of Lake Taghkanic State Park from the state park website:
Lake Taghkanic State Park, nestled
next to Lake Taghkanic in the rolling hills and lush forests of
Columbia County, offers a wonderful variety of recreational activities.
The park has tent and trailer campsites and cabin and cottage camping
facilities, two beaches, picnic grounds and a boat launch. In addition,
the park has hiking, biking, cross-country ski and snowmobile trails.
Ice skating and ice fishing are permitted when conditions are
appropriate.
We decided to do a relatively flat loop around the lake. It seemed like the perfect route. Somewhere we got a bit lost and even though we could see the lake, the paths didn't seem to go in the right direction. Since it is now July, my memory fails me a bit but it was dusk by the time we found the road to take us back to where we parked the cars. I remember the snow being soft and there not being enough of it so you could feel ruts and things. I kept slipping off my skis and had a big blood blister on the side of my big toe by the end. It hurt but walking on the road felt better. I think I may have taken a wrong turn to get out of the park but eventually found my way home.
It was good exercise and it was a nice winter day.
