We had an earlier breakfast today so that we all could ride together to the airport.  Vivienne and Peter are homeward bound via Mandalay.  The rest of us were off on our own to Ngapali Beach via Heho airport.  We arrived at the beach airport around 10:30 am.  Our passports were checked and then we went out of the airport in search of our baggage.  We were met by the airport shuttle bus and our bags were loaded into the front seats of the bus.  A hotel brochure says that there is a pleasant 15 minute drive, but the road is currently under construction and the road was a bit rocky and very dusty.

The resort is new and quite posh by Explore standards I would think.  We have a large room with a large bathroom - nice tile - big windows with roman blinds that the staff lowered while we were at dinner.  The refrigerator may be a bit dicey but overall the accommodation here is wonderful!  Right now I am under my big mosquito net trying to finish up today's blog on wordpad since the internet connection is pretty temperamental.

So we got here and settled in:  Rosemary washed some clothes. I put my food in the refrigerator and moved the clothes drying rack to get better ventilation - we spread out so that we could find our things easily, and, oh, we put our valuables in the room safe.  After that we went to the beach - we may have gone at separate times - I wanted to go for a short walk to the water and along the water's edge.  We ended up having lunch with Wendy, Gerda, Hanna and Dom.  Then we went and did our various things.  I walked back and forth to the room several times to get cameras, leave cameras and clothes, put on my bathing suit.  It wasn't all that complicated compared to our usual itinerary but it seemed complicated at the time.

By 4 pm or so I had gone into the water, read more of my book, and taken some photos of the crab tracks around their holes and the weird and wonderful patterns made by the tide going out.  There is a very nice breeze here so even though it is still pretty hot, it is very pleasant in the shade and the water is very warm.  The beach here is sandy and clean.  You can walk quite a ways into the ocean and still have sand underfoot.  Unfortunately, Rosemary hit a rock with her toe and it is now turning quite purple.

After showering after my ocean foray, we went back to the main part of the hotel to find the others.  I had been approached by a man promoting his restaurant and another promoting his boat trip so I wanted to share my information.  We did manage to get to the hotel happy hour and take advantage of it.  Unfortunately, we had to have two of the same drink.  Wendy and Gerda switched so they got to try a different one.  Poor Hanna had gotten a pina colada that was not the best and was stuck with a second.  But we survived - all 8 of us since Marion and Martin had joined us again.  Dom set us a task of coming up with the 10 countries with four letters in their names and also the 5 countries with only one vowel - one of these is supposed to be Kyrgyzstan but I objected that the "y"s are really vowels in this case.  But we had fun with the games - we did get all 10 of the 4-letter countries but only 3 of the one-vowel ones.  Wendy tried Fiji - saying it only has one vowel - "i" but it didn't pass muster.  Finally we all had enough (or more than enough) to drink and went on to our dinner course at the hotel.  It is a beautiful setting and we could see the fishing boats out in the ocean with their illegal lights on.  The lights are illegal because of their unfair advantage in attracting the sealife.

Now it is getting close to 10 pm or maybe even after and time to get to sleep.
