Where I stayed
Up at 7 am today. We had breakfast by the cook group and then departure at 8 am. We got to the boat launch way before anyone else...the boat was scheduled to leave at 9 am. I noticed that the drive seemed a lot more than the 8 km that Mick said it was...in case I had to walk back by myself.
We didn´t get to do the glacier today...the water on the lake was too
choppy to approach the glacier...so instead several of us decided to walk back
to the town...Andrew, Gemma and Mike took a short cut back. Since it took the rest of us 4 hrs at a
moderately brisk pace, we are assuming it was closer to 20 km but Sarah and
Hilary, my walking partners, are such amiable people, time went by quickly
stopped for hot chocolate at the end because it is a bit cool here even without
being on the glacier...and there was a slight drizzle that obstructed the view
of the mountains including the famous Fitz Roy peak. Some of the others that went back on the truck took a hike to a lake with a glacier and a Fitz Roy overlook that was very nice. I wished I had been able to do both. We will try again tomorrow
since we have a 2nd day here. If it doesn't go, maybe I will try the overlook trail.
I tried a new internet shop. This town is geared toward the adventure
tourists with lots of restaurants, tour agencies, mountaineering stores and
internet shops. However, this place turned out even slower than yesterday´s. I explored town...picked up my laundry, bought some books and postcards. For dinner some of us went to the microbrewery. Jonathan and Steve who had left us in BA (or sooner) were there at the restaurant. We heard news of theft of Alex's daypack in Buenos Aires...It had his passport, camera, credit cards, money, etc. This is the second because Jen's bag was stolen from under the table in a restaurant in BA. Hmmm, I forgot about the counterfeit money that we got in BA and I am still trying to get rid of some of the bad 50 peso notes. It was a den of iniquity!
