Some of our group went white-water rafting and others of us, including me, went tubing.  We went with local guides who did not speak much English and so they gave us our safely instructions in Portuguese.  Some of our group contributed all sorts of jokes during the instructions pretending to help with the explanation.  Hilary paid close attention so the guides directed their explanation to her - which she didn't really understand.  With the help of some mime, we got the general idea and set forth.  We were not allowed to take anything with us, including cameras - even though I had my waterproof camera.  My flip flops were tied onto my feet with twine.  This seemed like a good idea so that I wouldn't lose them -- until we got to the path to the river that was oozing with mud....and cowshit.  I had trouble getting my feet unstuck so I could take another step forward.  Alex bought a new pair of flip flops after this experience.

The tubing was fun, not too scary.  We went over some rapids but no one fell out despite all the warnings. The guides jostled our tubes so it would be more adventurous.  Our youngest tour member Harry tipped over one of the leaders and captured his kayak. One of the guides took videos of the trip, but because of the language barrier, I think, we never were offered copies for sale.  Too bad - it might have been nice to have.  The water was warm enough and the sun was shining.  I think we all got sunburned despite our liberal application of waterproof sunscreen.

When we got back, the truck was still out for repairs.  I was stuck without money, cameras or books....all the things I am dependent on, so I was beside myself.  Andrew in the meantime had discovered the waterfall just down the road from the campground.  I checked out the Park de Sales where kayakers were practicing.  A champion rafting team comes from this town as well as a famous actress who died in a car accident - now a place of pilgrimage but we did not go there.

We had bacon and egg sandwiches for breakfast and a delicious chicken dish for dinner.  Food again.

I thought I had taken more photos of the kayaking park but haven't located them.  May look in all the original cards if I get to it.
