September 18, 2009 (Friday) – Caddo Mills, TX (120 miles)

Not another flat tire! This morning when Wendell went out to start the disconnect process, he discovered we had another flat tire on the trailer.  First he tried airing it with his portable compressor while we ate breakfast but to no avail.  The park manager told us there was a tire shop a short distance away so Wendell called USAA Roadside Assistance and worked out an arrangement to get the tire changed quickly.  "Quickly" doesn't happen fast.  First he got a local RV repair shop adjacent to the park to come take the tire off.  Then he drove it to Discount Tire to see if it could be repaired.  Meanwhile, Nitchie and I sat inside the trailer propped at an odd angle.

When you buy a used vehicle, you always look at the tires to see if they are good. These looked to be in great shape last February when we purchased the rig but we all know things deteriorate as they sit.  There’s no telling how long this RV sat up without moving before we bought it and now we’ve added another 12 – 15K miles.  Looks like we’ll have all new tires by the time we get back to Spring Branch.  Once again, Lord, thank you for giving us the wherewithal to handle these situations, and at least they’re getting cheaper:  $130 for this one.

We had a nice visit with my mom, intermingled with trips to the hospital to visit my sister who had knee replacement surgery.  Sis had her 1st knee surgery in April or May but has been in constant agony since.  The surgeon decided the prosthesis was too large so they did another surgery to put in a smaller one.  Only time will tell if it helped. My brother, who lives next door to my mom, also needs knee surgery but after watching Shirley go through hers, Jesse has decided that he will just put up with the discomfort a bit longer.  Wonder why?

September 20, 2009 (Sunday) – Waco, TX (145 miles)

With hugs and kisses to the family, we headed south to visit our daughter, Shannon, and her family.  Shannon and Craig bought a new house and moved in after we left on our trip so this was our first time to see the new place.  We had been impressed with the photos they sent us, but it was even better seeing it for real.  They now live in a 4-bedroom, 3-bath house on 20 acres west of Waco in China Spring.  The place even has a pool/spa and a barn that the previous owners had used to park their motor coach.  Of course, that meant we had full hookups right bes side their house and could even run the AC.  We spent the majority of the afternoon and evening sitting on the back patio beside the pool talking, but we did find a little time to take out the Jokers board and Shannon and I defeated the guys quite handily.

In the evening, Wendell grilled chicken on Craig’s new gas grill.  Yes, Craig was there but we only let him cook as a last resort.  His specialty is anything that can be heated in the microwave.  The next morning we sent them off to work and shortly afterwards headed for home.

We find it rather ironic that Nitchie has finally resigned herself to traveling.  After 13, 455 miles she now relaxes enough to sleep on the backseat.  When we turned the corner onto the road that leads to our place, she perked up and by the time we got to our gate, she was running from one side of the vehicle to the other…whining.  And, yes, the first thing she did when she got out of the truck was to roll around on the ground.  No doubt, she is glad to be home.

While we love our travels, it is always nice to come home for a while.  The relaxation of getting away from everything never takes the place of sleeping in your own bed.  We hope you have enjoyed coming along on this latest journey; we wish you could have been with us in person because there is no way I can describe the sights, sounds, and smells or even take photos that do justice to the beauty of this country.  Maybe….someday soon….you’ll just have to go see it yourself.  So until our next adventure…..

Godspeed

Well Done ... !!!

Thank You for allowing us to travel along with you. It was very entertaining to 'be in the back seat' as you traveled and documented your trip.

Glad you are back home!!!

Re: EXCELLENT !!!
The back seat was a dangerous place to be.....Nitchie drools a lot when she's nervous. Glad you enjoyed the blog. Hope to see you again soon but I'll leave next Tuesday to return to Alaska and welcome our newest grandson into the world. When I return, we'll be traveling more until after Thanksgiving. See you at NPV.
