2010 U.S. Road Trip – Day 37 -
7/25/2010 – South Bend, IN

It's only a few hours to Chicago, IL
from Dekalb. We arrived in Chicago around 1:30 and decided to take a
trip to the top of the Sears Tower. We noticed that the line was
really long outside the building but decided to get in line and wait
it out. Within 15 minutes we were inside the building. The line was
about 100 yards long outside the building. Once inside we took the
elevator down to the basement where we went through a security check
and purchased tickets. We then entered another part of the building
where we had to wait in line to view a movie. This was another 30
minute wait. The movie only lasted about 10 minutes but there was
already another group viewing the movie and the wait time between
movie viewings is about 5 minutes. Once the movie was over I was
sure that we would then get on the elevator to go up to the top. Not
so. We exited the movie into another area where we would wait
another 45 minutes before we got on the elevator to the top. By the
time we got to the top it had been over 2.5 hours since we got in
line.

The view from the top was spectacular.
All of Chicago could be seen. There were views from each side of the
building. There was an area where one could look straight down under
their feet while standing on a glass ledge that extended out from the
building. We took several photos. I must have taken over a 100
photos of Chicago from this building. We even got a shot of the
truck that was parked in a parking lot near the Sears Tower.

We left Chicago late in the evening and
headed for South Bend where we would stay at the Holiday Inn Express
for the night.
