2010 U.S. Road Trip – Day 18 -
7/6/2010 – Hollywood, CA

We didn't make it to the beach in San
Diego yesterday so we decided to go to the beach this morning before
heading to Hollywood. La Jolla Cove was highly recommended by
several people we had spoken with. It was certainly a nice beach.
There were multiple areas to swim on the beach. One area was closed
due to the amount of seals resting on the beach. The seals had
pretty much taken over this particular section of the beach. We were
able to get very close to the seals to take photos and they didn't
seem to mind at all. The water was cold at 65 degrees and the air
temperature was around 70. My son decided that he would go for a
swim despite it being a little cool and the rest of the family would
only get in ankle deep. My son wasn't alone as there were other kids
swimming too.

We left La Jolla Cove and headed for
Hollywood. It was about a 3 hour drive due to the heavy traffic in
LA. It was a nice drive up I-5 where the ocean could be seen from
the highway. Once we checked into the hotel we decided to go for a
walk. We ate at Mel's Drive-in. The food was good. As we were
walking down Hollywood we identified several names of celebrities on
the stars embedded in the sidewalk. The kids enjoyed that. It was
another late night as we didn't get back to the hotel until after
midnight.

Not just Wow. Donald , your Family Trip and your daily travel logs have been nothing short of fantastic reading. You've shown us the only real way to see the country. You are already in cross-country season (smile)!

Sorry it's taken me this long to comment on your fantastic cross country trip. Since I've been already been to Vegas, I loved those pictures of the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. The weather here has been extremely HOT. You guys stay safe. Enjoy the rest of the trip.
Brian
