2010 U.S. Road Trip – Day 13 -
7/1/2010 – Destination Jacob Lake, AZ

Departed the KOA campground and headed
for the Grand Canyon. We arrived at the Grand Canyon and headed
directly to the visitors center. From there we took a ride on the
park bus to the Bright Angel trailhead. We walked up the steps to
the trailhead and as we hit the top step the Grand Canyon view
appeared. The whole family was amazed. We had seen pictures, video,
and people even told us about the Grand Canyon but nothing prepared
us for the view that we saw when we hit that top step. It was truly
amazing. I can't describe it. I don't think there are any words
that can really describe the Grand Canyon. You would have to be
there to really get a sense of what the Grand Canyon is. We took a
30 minute walk down the Bright Angel trail and then headed back up
the trail. We had to cut the visit short because we will head to the
North Rim for a day hike in the Grand Canyon tomorrow. The trip to
the North Rim will take 4 hours by car and we need to get going. On
the way we will cross the Colorado River via the Navajo Bridge which
treated us to another great view.

We ate dinner at Jacobs Lake Inn &
Restaurant and then found a campsite across the road at the Jacob
Lake campground in the Kaibab National Forest.
