2010 U.S. Road Trip – Day 1 -
6/19/2010 – Destination Asheville, NC

It was 2003 when we decided that we
would take a 6 week vacation to tour the U.S. by car during the
summer of 2010. After planning for 7 years we are finally on the
road. We made our first stop in Richmond for a brief visit with my
wife's sister. As we traveled we stayed off of the interstate as
much as possible so that we could actually see areas that we had
never seen before. We made a lunch stop at Dan Daniel Memorial Park
in Danville, VA. The park is home to the Danville War Memorial. The
memorial is a wall displaying the names of fallen heroes whose
hometown was Danville. After lunch we crossed into North Caroline
with our sights set on Asheville, NC. We arrived in Asheville 14
hours after our departure from home.

We camped out in the Pisgah National
Forest. We were very fortunate to get a spot in the campground. The
campground was full but just as we drove into the campground, someone
decided to depart early and we were there to take their place for the
night. After setting up camp and eating dinner we decided to get
some rest and prepare ourselves for the next day.
