It's also very hard to see with the rain beating on your face and trucks going by with great amounts of spray. I slowed down and stopped after 30 minutes or so to check out a TV weather in a motel lobby.. Looked like I could run through it in another 30 miles or so thus I kept going and it did clear off and what a nice change indeed. I resolved to buy some boots.
Ft Stockton KOA was fine but before I got there I passed some five miles, I said miles, of wind mills.. Big modern suckers all turning away.. West Texas has tons of wind.. I mentioned seeing those to the KOA check in gal and she said if I had turned north off I 10 I could see them for another 50, right 50, miles!!! There are 6,000 of them.. She claimed all power went to LA.. Don't know..
That night the temp dropped from 95 to about 50 when the sun set.. I have this Florida style sleeping bag.. I wore sweats, my rain gear and covered the bag with two big towels I had brought. I was cold all night!! Never again!!!
Before leaving Ft. S. I husseled my rear in to everyones favorite store and bought boots and a more serious sleeping bag.. Then I had a really wonderful ride up state route 54 from Van Horn to Carlsbad.. There was a sign when I left I 10 that the next gas station was 62 miles... I drove 52 miles before I saw a car coming or going!! I felt alone in this big country.. Gotta go.. Staying in a Motel 6 tonight.. I need a news fix. Take care.. DLD
