Feb 5th – Blow this noisy popsicle stand early and head for the north east coast. Very nice inland hwy 30 past lots of lakes. We stop at one of the smaller ones,
Lake Rotoma, and Danny goes for a refreshing swim. The beach is Sandy the water is warm and crystal clear. Very nice day area with lots of families as it is Saturday. Off again for East Cape and some really pretty views of the Ocean again. Stop for lunch on a nice beach with lots of people in the water. Drive another hour East on the North Coast road and it is a pretty drive with big Beech trees overhanging the road and sea views. Turn around at
Hawai and head back to
Opitiki to Island View holiday park which is on a lovely swimming beach right next to where we had lunch. From our camper we have a wonderful view of the water as the camp is empty. Spend the afternoon swimming in the waves and the water is the warmest it has been, almost Paa Mul warm! Danny does a fantastic David Hasselhoff run down the beach a la Bay Watch beefcake. It is a hot sunny day (likely 30ish) and we cap it off with a very nice Oriental Mint marinated lamb chops.
