Well, I'm still in Dallas. But I figure this would be a good time to start writing down what's happening. I've been simultaneously packing for the trip and unpacking (since I just got back from school). Interestingly enough, I'm having a harder time deciding what to take, rather than what not to take. Though I'm not usually a minimalist when it comes to packing, I seem to have covered only the essentials in packing for this trip. I'm sure my mom and dad will have a few (ha!) more things for me to take. I've got some books, clothes, and toiletries. That's all I need, right?

So this will be quite a trip, and even though I'm excited, I still don't think it's quite hit me yet what I'm beginning. No computer for seven weeks (with the occasional trip to an internet cafe to update this log). No cellphone-leash (although I'll have one, as mandated by the mother). Just kidding. I plan on keeping two journals, one for the trip, and one for writing. A writer has to have a journal.

I suppose I have nothing left to say in this first entry. Or rather, much to say, but little desire to compile it into words. Forgive me for my poor journal-keeping skills. I still haven't figured out yet if I'm writing for myself or writing for other people. Perhaps I'll hone my skills over the next seven weeks. So long, and may the awesomeness of this first entry hold you in suspense until the next one.

dude your dad does much more of a thorough job of describing details and the trip in general, with many pictures might i add..at least the recent ones. perhaps i'd much rather read his account than yours. pfft.
