What I did
A couple of Little Irish towns

Flag of Australia  , Victoria,
Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Well when we started off this morning I thought we were going to Port Fairy, 26km away but Doug and Mrs Tom Tom had other ideas, we went the long way round which was very interesting because we came across a couple of towns with strong Irish heritage.  The towns and buildings were all very old and had Irish names.

We went inland from Warrnambool and Koroit was the first town we stopped at and is the home of a large Devondale factory.  Consequently the land all around here is very rich, potato growing and dairies and some very very big bulls.  Killarney was the next town which was a lot smaller but very close to Koroit.

No mention of morning tea or comfort stops yet because today we were late finding a suitable venue to keep us entertained when we had it.  Eventually we stopped at Belfast Beach which wasn't anything special considering how windy and cold it was, then on to Port Fairy.

Port Fairy is much bigger than I had imagined but very pretty and the community has retained the old buildings and even keeping the newer ones in the same style.  We walked around the streets and checked out all the big old churches and the well maintained homes.  Some large and some very tiny but all well kept.

At lunch time we met 2 couples from Perth who knew that the KA number plate was from Katanning.  They knew someone who knew someone that I knew in another life.  We tonked back to Warrnambool in time to do some housekeeping.  No you don't want to know what that entailed!

Please don't use the term "comfort stop" again. I'll have to stop reading your blogs. Thank you.
