Today was our second day of investigating the Innes NP, so after breakky we headed back to the Stenhouse Bay Jetty and did the walk up and around the headland. The walk has boards explaining more about the shipping side of the gypsum and it was surprising to see that the ships came in so close to shore to be loaded. Again a lot of the stuff has gone but you can still see remants in the area. It was on this walk that Britney complained of a headache – we weren't sure if she was tired or hadn’t been drinking enough, so back at the car I gave her a panadol to see if that works (normally it does) but it seemed this time it didn’t. As I knew I had to wait to give her anything else we continued on our exploring but left her in the car while we walked. Our next stop was the Cape Spencer Lighthouse where Dion Lachy and I walked out to and got photos looking along the cliffs and also the island off shore. There was no information on the lighthouse and how long it had been there so we decided we would look it up on the internet. Our next stop was Westcape Lighthouse where we were able to see down the beach (we could have gone down but Brit was in the car so we didn’t), there was also a lookout which gave 360 degree views and again we were blown away but the scenery. This is where we also saw our 2nd black snake in the park (we saw one yesterday), this time we got photos.
We then headed towards Royston Head where they was a 4km walk, by this time Brit seemed a little better and after eating some lunch we all began the walk. During the walk I was texting my niece to ask my sister about how much medication I could give Brit. Having decided I would give her some more when we got back to the car we continued on (needless to say she didn’t need it!) The walk to Royston Head was on a sandy track and mostly uphill, but the views once we reached the end were great and we were looking down on a beach that was most inviting, however I wasn’t sure how we would get back up.
We then headed back to the van where we saw another black snake (not impressed having one so close to the van). Also as we pulled into our site we noticed something under one of the trees and saw an emu having a sleep. Dion and I then watched the V8’s while the kids played games. When we decided to have showers before heading for dinner we realised that the van had run out of water. It seems it was not completely filled when we left Rawnsley Park – thing is when it is about half filled the water comes out of the vent hole and it tricked Dion up this time, what he usually does is waits and it then continues to fill until the water comes out the hole with the hose in. Fortunately we could get water from a rainwater tank near the Tavern, so he headed up there to get water to get us through until tomorrow. We then had showers and headed to the Tavern for dinner.
It seems really strange to be camping in a national park and yet having dinner at a Tavern. Dion and I ordered the surf’n’turf, the kids ordered kids meals and we sat watching our van and looking out over the sea, quite a great spot. Once we had our dinner, everything was going well until I choked on a piece of meat. Gave both Britney and I a scare, but Dion and Lachy seemed unphased! When I finally came back Britney was in tears and the boys just kept eating. Needless to say I did take if very easy eating the rest of dinner! Not something I want to experience again and funny how your instincts kick in. We ordered sticky date pudding for dessert which we shared (could not have eaten a whole serving on our own). Then we headed back to the van which had the moon coming up behind it and seemed like a great way to finish our stay at Innes National Park. I would recommend to anyone heading this way to make sure you come and stay and check out the history here.
Tomorrow we finally head to Adelaide where we hope to stay for a week.
