This morning we were awake before 6 – the sun wasn't even up, but we all were. Knew we would be in for a LONG day. After Brekky I tried to upload some blog entries, which worked, but trying to upload photos was another issue. After doing 2 in about 20 mins I gave up and got ready. We headed to Kununnura Baptist this morning and felt like we had travelled back 30 years. We sang songs from "Scripture in Song" does anyone else remember the Blue and Brown books from Gordon Park Baptist Days? Well I got the giggles with the memories that came back. The sermon was on Gideon and the confirmations he sought from God. The kids had a great time in Sunday School and we literally had to drag them away. Came back to the van and had lunch before heading out to Wyndham.
The drive to Wyndham on the way was beside and through some ranges and once we arrived there we headed up to the 5 Rivers Lookout. It’s funny how you read about something in blogs and build a picture in your mind only to arrive at the place and it is not what you thought. My impression was that 5 rivers met in the same junction but it is actually 5 rivers running into the Gulf but from different areas. It was quite interesting to see. The photo I have attached it the way it actually is, it does not need to be rotated, the rivers are to the left and right flow into the gulf. We headed down to have a look at the Port and took some photos explaining the use of the port and a bit of the history.
On our way back to Kununnura we headed on the King River Road, which is 4WD, to find the Prison Tree. This is a Boab tree that is hollowed out and they would use for holding prisoners overnight until they could transport them out of the area. Once again, I was expecting one thing and saw something completely different. I know Boab trees can be big but this one is HUGE – look at the car and Dion in relation to the size. The kids were fascinated and Lachy spotted several holes to let light in, while Britney noticed some bolts in the outside which made us wonder what they were used for.
Going back the way we came (was a bit late to continue on the King River Road) we saw the Dam which is used for Wyndhams water supply and also some aboriginal art on a little side road. Heading back to the main road Dion took a short cut across the salt pan which was so much smoother than the 4WD road. I then drove back to Kununnura amongst the stunning beauty of the ranges changing in the changing light. About 15kms out of town we saw the sunset in the rear view mirror and it was spectactular. Britney remarked on the sky turning shades of pink and purple as the sun set and the beautiful red that the ranges change to.
We got back to the van and made Sausage casserole for dinner, which Lachy tried, unsuccessfully, to throw up – seems he can’t cope with the combination of Apricot Nectar and Tomato Paste “it’s not right mum”, eventually he ate it all and went off to have a shower. Again the kids headed to bed early with Dion following about 8pm.
Not sure what tomorrow holds so you’ll have to wait and see!
