While wasting away my time in Tsumeb, I met two other travellers, Kevin and Irmgard. Kevin was originally from England, Irmgard from Germany, but they now live in Holland . After some small talk, we decided we could stand each other's company enough to rent a car together for a week and head off into the wilds of Northwestern Namibia .

Let me tell you something about Kevin and Irmgard. If you are looking for interesting friends who are up for adventure, look no further. They have been all over the world doing the type of travel that many turn their noses up at. They have climbed to Everest Base camp, motorcycled through the Sahara in northern Africa, and once lived outside in their carport for a year chained to a fence to prevent some truly evil neighbours from putting up an illegal home version of the Berlin Wall. Despite Kevin's striking resemblance to a mischievous leprechaun, he is fit and active and always ready for new challenge. Despite his 12 years on me, I am sure that if I had taken him up on his idea of punching each other in the stomach for fun, I would have come off the worst of the two. All in all, good people, good travelling companions.

We picked up our car for the week. It was a 2007 Volkswagen Gulf of a design that western Gulfs have not seen for at least twenty years. Because all three of us were cheap bastards, we opted for no air conditioning. After a week of driving in the wilds of northern Namibia, not only have I seen this country, but I have tasted it, sneezed it, picked it out of my hair and nose, and beaten it out of my backpack, trousers, underpants, and anything else I own. We consoled ourselves that the people who drove around in 4 wheel drives with air conditioning were not really experiencing Namibia like we were. To really experience it, you had to drive a crappy two-wheel drive on roads that were so completely inappropriate for the vehicle while coughing and choking on dust for days on end. Yeah, hard core! Yeah, stupid!

The first day we got up early, and hit the road. Etosha Park was our destination and wild life was our goal. In keeping with a theme I seem to have developed during this trip, I will not write too much about the game viewing itself, but invite you to check out the photographs.

After a night and another day in the park, we were off to Outjo.
