Today, however, was very cool. I caught a couple of mini-buses out to the Dead Sea. It is the lowest place on earth, and the saltiest. It is really like they say - you simply can't sink. I would have loved to have had a cheesy tourist shot of me sitting in the water, bobbing up and down, reading a newspaper or a book, but alas, there was no one to take it. I did make a little movie, be sure to check it out.
The water is incredibly salty. At one point, I got some in my eyes, and the agony was quite impressive. You couldn't wipe your eyes as your hands would simply transfer more water into them, and so you had to shake your head like a dog after a bath. Bobbing around was hilarious, especially if you flipped over on your stomach. My ass seems to have so much fat, that it just popped up out of the water, making it nearly impossible to kick your feet and swim in any normal manner.
The mud of the Dead Sea is supposed to be very good for your skin, and you can buy any number of beauty products made from it. Taking my lead from a group of Lebanese tourists, I slathered myself with mud from the shoreline. It felt dirty. And not a good dirty.
