Woke up early as usual
Got my day pack ready and headed off to the Many Glacier Hotel to go on the ranger led hike to the Grinnell Glacier
Had to get boat tickets and I was second on the waiting list so I arrived early and charged the ipad while I waited
Got my ticket and road Two Chiefs, one of a series of classic wooden boats that cross many of the lakes in GlacierThen we got off and took a short walk and got on the Morning Eagle for the ride across Lake Josephine
Began the hike up while it was overcast which was great
Learned lots of geology but also learned a bit of history as well; for instance I learned that Fishercap Lake, the lake near my campsite, was named for George Bird Grinnell and the unique hat he wore
The climb was enjoyable due to the cloud cover and the beautifully colored sky.
On the way up and down we had great sightings of bighorn sheep rams including one renegade who actually walked the trail
The view of the Grinnell Glacier and Upper Grinnell Lake that it was forming at the top made the journey worthwhile once again. What fabulous hikes in Glacier!
The trip down after that was uneventful as I left early so I wouldn't be pressured going downhill
I waited about an hour for the boat
As we pulled into Swiftcurrent Lake we saw a moose cow and calf swimming in the lake just enjoying themselves
Walked back to Swiftcurrent Inn and called Jer but just had to leave a voicemail
Ate my last Mountain House freeze dried meal; they were all good
Decided to call Jer and this time was able to talk to her; I told her how little rain I had encountered
