Smoky fire on my bio-lite stove, but finally boiling water for coffee
Coffee
Out to lake; moose calf eating away
Small shore birds white breasts bobbing up and down
Dramatic morning sky
Go back eat breakfast
It begins to rain lightly, but it's the most rain I have had so far ; I bundle everything into the tent
Rain stops and now it's time to head for Red Rock Falls, a four mile hike
Come back and eat lunch
Go to Swiftwater Inn and charge the ipad; also check on shuttle to East Glacier and then get a ticket to take me from East Glacier to West Glacier on Wednesday that will save all the shuttle switching on the park shuttle westbound
Get a quick sighting of a bull moose but try to see black bears that have been spotted on the trail to no avail
Back at the lake to read
Begin dinner, but have a guest eating my thimble berries for dinner; have a great conversation with my camping neighbors who were interested in how I was doing
They saw 6 bears the day before:one was the bear I saw and photographed, two others were eating carrion (yes that's right Sam) and they saw a sow and two cubs during a hike in Two Medicine. The sow had raised up on her hind quarters to look at them and they were pretty unnerved for a bit
Also, they reported that on the day they arrived, several days before me, they had watched a bear run through my campsite
As the day ended I sat by the river. You can see what I saw if you watch the video.
At the close of the day an "end of the day" treat occurs as the moose cow and calf cross the stream bed behind my campsite
