Best night of sleep yet! Used a chamber pot which helped as did the long hike!
Took my time getting up
Had my first Starbucks Via; it was great!
Listened to my new campers tell of meeting a huge grizzly at the end of the Highline Trail near Logan Pass; the bear arrived late afternoon; I had been there in the morning
Wasn't sure what I would do on my last day on the west side
Decided that the lure of Logan Pass was too great
Caught a shuttle around 9 and made my way up talking with people the whole way including people I had met the day before who wanted to know more
I also talked with Margi the shuttle driver; during the year she drives school buses in Oregon; she has been driving the shuttle bus for 6 years; for the first 5 years she lived in a tent when she drove the shuttles; this year she was renting a place with another female driver
Every where I went I struck up conversations with people about where they were from, where they hiked, and often they wanted to know my story. I felt like I had become Grandpa Woody!
Logan was not as foggy; I went down the Highline trail a ways to get to the cliff side and I also confirmed where the grizzly had been digging on the trail
Spotted a ptarmigan with the help of others who had seen it first
Then I headed back to the Hidden Lake trail to hike and eat lunch at the overlook
Lots of goats on the way
Hiked on up to the overlook and went beyond to find a secluded spot for lunch
Had my "chicken in a can" lunch; quite tasty
As I was eating I saw people congregating on the trail to my left
Soon I found out why; the family of goats I had seen earlier was making its way out of the woods on a little path that was directly in front me. I was just a few feet away as they made their way by after enjoying a few more minutes headed down to Logan Pass
My shuttle driver, Rick Charles, the '75 Penn State grad happened to be the driver so once again I sat in the front seat and learned more about him and he learned more about me; very interesting to talk to; his kids don't like camping; he discovered the national parks 10 years ago; growing up his parents had a Chautauqua place near Hershey, PA
Took the shuttle back to camp and made a Via then back on the shuttle with Margi to Lake McDonald Lodge to get some power for the ipad
First took a picture of me at the totem pole and thought of the last time I had been there with my whole family and my Mom; my Mom and Dad helped give me the love for the out of doors and the willingness to try adventures; I thought of her as I took this picture and knew she would be happy that I was doing what I was doing
Found an empty outlet and sat at a table in the lounge to work on my journal and get a little juice ,for the ipad
Came back to camp, cooked chili Mac and then somewhat organized my stuff for the move to the east side tomorrow
