We pulled out of El Paso on 2/19 but only got as far as Ft. Stockton and were again sidelined by wind. We were not so lucky in finding a great park this time, the patch of gravel we ended up at was called an RV park but was pretty much a parking lot with no amenities but plenty of dirt and trash. Mostly filled with work-campers we stuck real close to the coach and left as soon as the wind got down to 15-20 mph.
We got to Kerrville TX on Sunday night, couldn't find the park we had a reservation at so stayed in the overflow of the KOA. On Monday we moved to the Kerrville-Schreiner Park. It used to be a State park but was given to the city a few years ago. It is on the Guadalupe River about 70 miles north/west of San Antonio. Dix used to camp here when he was stationed at Randolph in the 70's and mom and dad camped here also. Back then it was over run with all kinds of wildlife (deer, peacocks, geese,). Now it is mostly just a few deer and some ducks, swans and geese in the river. We actually have trees (so many it was hard to get a satellite signal). It is still winter here too so things are just starting to bud up and not so green yet but the river is still beautiful. Rascal loves the long quiet walks (so do I) and looking for the squirrels and deer he can smell. There have been few other campers during the week so has been quiet and peaceful.
We took a trip into San Antonio Thursday and checked out Ft. Sam Houston. It is a great RV park but is booked until late March so will go check out Lackland AFB tomorrow. Not reported to be as great as Sam Houston but supposedly has lots of room open. The weather has been hot - and cold. Most days have been in the 70's but got up to 88 one day then the next night it was down to 42 and windy and cold. Guess this is spring in the hill country. As soon as we get settled in San Antonio we will start seeing the sights and report back. We lost our camera while in Tucson so have been having to use our cell phone cameras. Pictures are okay but it is a pain to send them to my computer to add to this blog. May have to go shopping when we get to SA.
We are all doing well and enjoying ourselves. Ya all send me an email and let me know what is going on in your life.
