Where I stayed
We spent our last day in Munich, arriving about 11:30 by train, and heading out almost immediately from our hotel to Dachau which is about 45 minutes by train from downtown Munich. Despite being appropriately cold and rainy, there were a lot of people there. Even met someone from Ole Miss! Took a ton of pictures because Tanner is studying the war and concentration camps and Dachau was really the first, started in 1933, long before WWII. It was where a lot of the training was done for the other camps and there were hundreds of smaller work camps branched off from it and the other major camps. Dachau was also the place Nazi doctors did many brutal and inhumane experiments on their captives.
After Dachau we at McDonald's hamburgers at the train station there (our first McDonald's the whole trip and boy did that McFlurry taste good. Then back to Munich, a brief stop at the hotel to get our plane seats for the next day on the internet, then off to the 1972 Olympic Site and finally Marienplatz, the old downtown area of Munich with the Glockenspiel and such.
Sufficiently whooped, we returned to our hotel and packed, this time for the last time, for our plane flight the next am back to Heathrow then on to O'Hare and home.
