Where I stayed
Tents on the Inca Trail!
Just back (and it feels like a lifetime ago already) from the Inca trail. Much tougher than we ever expected! Tired and sore today. Four long days of walking and roughing it in tents and using rotten holes in the ground as toilets! so glad to see a bed, hot shower and proper toilet last night!
Despite it being difficult, it was an amazing experience and a great achievement to finish. The Inca sites were like something out of a movie, emerging from the mist. Despite being wrecked yesterday we even climbed Wayna Picchu, the very steep optional mountain at the end! Toughest climb but worth it for the views at the end. It was a good laugh, especially at night in the big dinner tent. The food was great to be so far from civilisation. A group of porters carried everything (from gas cylinders to chairs up the mountain on their backs). They were brilliant! At 4am yesterday morning during breakfast, they presented one of the lads with his very own massive chocolate birthday cake! Unbelievable!
