It's overcast and rainy today.  No diving scheduled so a short road trip is in order.

We drove to what is considered the prettiest beach in Phuket, Nai Harn beach, located about 15 minutes from our home.  Got out the umbrellas as it was still spitting and made our way to the beach area.  The beach was really lovely and is surrounded by hills on all sides.  We'll need to come back in the sunshine ... and spend some time.

Driving south we came across Cape Promthep, the southern most tip of Phuket mainland. Beautiful place with islands just off the coast, a lighthouse and a random ring of Elephant statues (odd combo).  Spent some time wandering (the rain had stopped) and snapped some pictures.

In the evening we venture to Phuket Town, approximately 25 minutes north of us, for the famous 'Night Market".  Rows upon rows of of stalls selling everything from Ninja throwing stars (really!) to fake Coach handbags (they may not be all that fake as the actual handbags are made in Thailand).  The stalls and the isles are draped with thick plastic tarps in case of rain but they do have some disadvantages.  1) they sag, so you are constantly ducking or you have to walk down the middle where they don't quite meet (Aman would have no hope *LOL*).  2) they hold in the heat, OMG, it must have added another 10c to the ambient temperature ... it was also packed with people, another 5c on top of that ... the sweat was really pouring!

After wandering the market for a while and haggling for some silk pillow covers, that we would head to the 'food court'.  Amazing ! BBQ sticks of meat, bananas dipped in chocolate (with sprinkles), grilled squid on a stick, sticking rice with mangoes ... and the list goes on.  After satisfying the hunger, we called it a night.  While walking to the car we spotted a small children's area complete with little rides.  The most awesome ride in the world lives here !!  It's a mini carousel with geese-cars ... what makes it awesome? it's powered by a household fan on a long pole !!  They turn on the fan to start the ride and turn the fan off to stop it.  Every time it makes on full revolution it runs over the power cord and all of the pretty lights and the fan go out momentarily.  You've got to check it out in the video !

Tomorrow is going to be a quiet day, just lazing around in the morning and a beach dive in the afternoon (not taking my camera though as the visibility isn't going to be too good ... so I'll see you on Tuesday :-)

Hahah...I would have to use some of those Ninja throwing stars to break through the garbage bags!
