Was up early this morning at 5am to go white water rafting on the Pacuare River which is situated in the central highlands of Costa Rica.

Though I have been rafting before in Chang Mai (northern Thailand) I have never been white water rafting so I was very excited about the prospect but also a wee bit nervous - as the river featured a few grade 4 rapids.

After being collected at a hotel close to Yoleena's house we had to collect four other people that would make up the rafting team. Two of which were a married couple of Kiwi`s now living in London that had decided to leave the big smoke and go traveling for a year (that actually introduced me to this site) and the other couple were two game old women from North Carolina who were both teachers.

We then drove about two hours before having breakfast and our safety briefing and then on to the start of the river flow which, if I remember rightly was based around 300metres above sea level. The rafting would take a duration of 3 hours, traveling 20miles and dropping to about 80 metres at its end.

The rafting itself was an amazing experience with beautiful views and great rapids, that once or twice knocked me and the party for six.
Unfortunately I have no pictures of the experience as I did not have a waterproof camera with me, but in fairness I don't think it would have lasted long in the raft anyway..I certainly had more to think about than looking after a camera.

After 3 hours and a very numb and shriveled anatomy it was dinner and then the long tiring road home in a vicious monsoon downpour.

Great day.
