Aug 16-18

The first day in Costa Rica was spent doing a small amount of clothes shopping (as I had no clothes other than those on my back) for some shorts, sandals and t-shirts before heading off to Punta Leona with Sonya ) Paediatric Surgeon that works with Naomi) and her daughter for the weekend.

Punta Leona is a beach resort that welcomes Costa Ricans and tourists alike. Like most resorts it had all of the usual facilities, tennis courts, bars, mini golf, restaurants, swimming pools and beaches. We were lured by false pretence to a classical night endorsed by some local wine company. The classical artists turned out to be little more than a close harmony choir company/barber shop quartet that merely said the word `bum` in various pitches, i.e. baritone, tenor etc and the wine promoters were only prepared to show us the bottle - no tasting god forbid.

The two and a half days spent here were mostly spent relaxing on the two beautiful beaches and getting sun burnt. Though I have been in hotter and more humid climates the sun rays here are decidedly deceptive.

The breakfast at Punta Leona was one of the high points of the weekend, the breakfast restaurant was set in the middle of a national park and so breakfast was shared with hundreds of monkeys that jumped about and stole anything that wasn't tied down.
