Long Ago, in a province which I think is called Phii Chit, there is a huge stone structure in the shape of the body of a crocodile. The legend of the crocodile is that he is no ordinary beast. He was a monster of enormous proportions, but very charming. It was not just his personality that was charming, but he also could transform into handsome shapes and he his teeth were made of diamonds. This crocodile named Sharamaan would come up into the country in the form of a very handsome young man and with his beguiling charms, carry away all the beautiful women in the country to be his wives in his cave below the sea. No one could kill this crocodile with the diamond smile and many people were afraid of him. One day a man named Krathong took a Thai weapon with him and using magic, parted the waves. He went down to Sharamaan's layer, where he was disguised as a young man still. Despite his charms, they had a great battle in the water and Krathong killed the great crocodile, then all the people felt safe and happy.
This is a traditional Thai tale I heard tonight.
