Our big new bus left Uttara at 09.15 on 6 February for Rangpur. The drive was a great opportunity to see how Bangladesh has changed. The roads have improved, but the driving is now even more dangerous. There are more high rise buildings and factories (garments, cement and brick making operations) all along the road to Rangpur. Rice planting was happening everywhere. Many farmers can now grow and harvest three crops per year.

After three hours we stopped for lunch at the Jamuna Parjatan Holiday Resort. To our surprise towo of the famous posters 'Visit Bangladesh before the tourists come' were still here. The five-kilometre long Jamuna bridge replaces the Aricha ferry from the past. I saw many trees from Bogra to Rangpur that look similar than the black and white poster I have in my home from May 1978, with only one bullock cart on the main road and one tree with huge branches hanging over the road. We reached Rangpur just before dark, stiff and tired. The years start counting.

Hi Dick, enjoying your updates. We just returned from the sanitation and hygiene practitioners' workshop, which generated lots of interesting discussions about reaching the poorest, menstrual hygiene management, fecal sludge and many other issues. Our friends at BRAC were great hosts.
Funny to read that the same slogan has been used since the 70s. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see much of the country, but I will be back. Outside Dhaka it is beautiful, as your photos show.
