On Friday 3 February (is a Sunday in Bangladesh) we saw beautiful scenes along the road and in the fields between 08.15 and 10.15 this morning during a shuttle bus drive from Khulna to Jessore airport to catch the 11:00 Regent flight 762 back to Dhaka.

Many women and men are bending over, their feet in the water that irrigates their plot of land; planting rice seedlings, with a concentration and care as if they were operating upon a patient. The variety of greens and yellow gold from the various stages of growth of the rice on both sides of the road are impressive. They go on field after field, the early morning sun providing a mellow filter.

Our Regent bus needs to stay behind a small truck with four young guys each with an arm in plastic poking in white tons. They are creating fresh air to keep the fish in the tons alive, Chris knows. A cycle cart is piled up with cow dung draped around one-metre sticks, dried they provide fuel for cooking.

We notice that shops along the road are better stocked than 30 plus years ago. In quite a few villages we see rings and slabs for latrines and other products for the house being offered in neat rows in front of artisan shops. Butcher shops here and there are cutting up and displaying all sorts of parts from cows and goats on their street stalls, at one of them the head of a cow is shown as
if it is a prize trophy. “Seeing this should turn one into a vegetarian immediately”, Chris commented.

Traffic is light, but busses' horns try to blow rickshaws and other slow movers off the road. We reach Jessore at 10:15. The Regent planes are new and have wide leg space, in 30 minutes we land in Dhaka. The new national flight terminal is new and clean. What a difference with the Fokker Friendships from 30 years ago. We could not take pictures on the way, so we are adding a few general ones from our Sunderbans tour.

Leuk om van jullie te horen. The Sunderbans trip lijkt me heel bijzonder.
Lijkt me heel goed.
