Looking back at our four nights and days cruise experience, it was a relaxing way to end our
intense and hectic travel through China. Although the daily schedule on board of the ship was like one of a strict boarding school with wake up calls through the loudspeaker at 07:00 precisely and lunch and dinner served on the dot of the minute. This particular cruise is apparently done by many Germans. Two Chinese guides gave information in fluent German, one of them the irritating 'Meister Li', as he called himself always through the central loudspeaker.

The food was excellent, with at least seven or eight different dishes at every meal. The ship had capacity for 160 passengers. There were about 130 guests and the Chinese groups had one more table than the Westerners, mainly Germans. We were on a table of eight people who were not part of a group. Four Germans and an American couple from Hawai, the only other two English speakers on board. They were in their early seventies, he from South India, she originally from South Korea. Her mother came to the USA as a “picture bride”. It was interesting
that all six were heading to Lhasa, where Chris and I also went in 1989.

The quiet views from our windows without being seen by others out on the deck were a great bonus, especially as the others were chain smokers. We had our own Happy Hours drinking coffee and tea as hot water was supplied all the time like every where else in China.

It was a pity that fog on all four days cruising resulted in only a couple of hours sun and clearer views. Interestingly, the tour DVD presented by thePresident cruise company on the last day did not show any fog at all.
